Isabelle's First Christmas

Being a family that has half our family very close by, and the other half in Kingston we decided a few years ago that we would spend every other year with each of our families so that we would get to spend the holidays evenly with our families…so this year, it was our turn to travel to Kingston.

Izzie’s first Christmas started with a big turkey feast at her Great Oma’s house on Christmas Eve, followed by present opening with Nana, Pop, Colvin, Sandra, Derek and of course, Oma. She received many great gifts including a hilarious singing frog from Oma that sings “Jingle Bell Rock". Although it’s very cute, Izzie is still a bit uneasy with it..she doesn't quite know what to think of a green guy that is almost as big as she is with a really big, loud voice.

She managed to stay awake to enjoy the whole evening, only to sleep straight through until 10am the next morning (yes friends, be very jealous of my fabulous sleeping baby!!!) Izzie was spoiled rotten again the next morning as she opened present after present from her Nana and Pop. One thing that we learned during this paper ripping frenzy is that toy manufacturers spend WAY too much time making sure that the toy stays in the box until the child opens it. After twist ties, plastic straps, glued boxes and tape she really had zero patience for me attempting to get the toys out for her to play with…it was really frustrating for me, never mind a 7 month old with a very short attention span!!
Christmas day we had our second turkey feast with the other side of S's family, including Isabelle’s other Great Grandma, a and a couple of great uncles. After our second dose of tryptophan in 24 hours, we then spent the rest of the evening on the couch watching the Season 4 DVD’s of Family Guy until we eventually nodded off. All in all though, it was a great visit to Kingston with lots of great food and family.
Our busy “Christmas vacation” then put us back in the car on Boxing day afternoon to drive back home for a 3rd large meal with my family. My cousins, their kids, my aunt and Gee Gee all came over for a huge lasagna feast. The kids all got to open their presents together and Izzie finally got the hang of ripping the paper. Next year she’ll be a pro!!

I’ll speak for Isabelle by saying that she had an absolute blast this Christmas. She got many (almost too many) amazing gifts from all the people that love her and we thank everyone very, very much. She’s a very lucky little girl to have such great family and friends.
